The Program in the Study of Religion at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver campus) is accepting applications for a part-time sessional lecturer to teach the following course:

Course Description
Advanced Seminar in the Study of Religion (RGST 400)
Seminar focused on a special theme in the interdisciplinary study of religion (e.g., religious violence, religion and the secular, religious space). Analysis of the theme’s contemporary manifestations and implications, through discussion of recent scholarship, both theoretical and case studies.
This is a variable topics course, so the material covered can be tied to the expertise and interests of the successful candidate.

Qualifications
Preference will be given to applicants with a Ph.D. in Religious Studies or a related discipline with training in Religious Studies, and experience in teaching at the college or university level. An excellent teaching record based on relevant experience in the subject matter or related courses is required.

- Curriculum Vitae, which includes a record of experience and a detailed list of all postsecondary courses taught (course name and number, length, credit value, dates, and teaching responsibilities)
- a sample outline for this course (maximum 2 pages), outlining a proposed overall topic (e.g., “Popular Religion in Ancient Rome;” “Material Religion;” “Ideas of Apocalypse”; “Religion and Economy in 19th Century Europe”) learning objectives, main assessments, and general material to be covered in the course
- evidence of teaching effectiveness (e.g., teaching evaluations, if available)
- names and contact emails of two referees

All positions are subject to availability of funds and will be governed by UBC’s “Agreement on Conditions of Appointment for Sessional Lecturers.” The minimum salary will be $9,559 per 3-credit course.
