Course Description
Study of religion through a comparative, cross-cultural, and interdisciplinary approach to humans’ engagement with the sacred. Examines religions as complex systems that share certain fundamental common features.

Eligibility
Students must be registered full-time in a graduate program during the term they will serve as teaching assistant and be legally entitled to work in Canada. This course is designated as “in person”; all successful applicants must physically reside in British Columbia for the duration of their appointment as teaching assistant (including during the exam period).
Qualifications
Advanced course work in the study of religion, anthropology of religion, or philosophy of religion. Previous experience as teaching assistant in a similar course is an asset.
Responsibilities:
The teaching assistant duties may include, attending lectures, holding regular office hours, marking assignments and exams, assistant with exam invigilation, other tasks as assigned by the instructor. Duties may also involve preparation and involvement in lectures and/or tutorials. TAs will work with a faculty member on the course.
All positions are subject to enrollment and funding.
Current salary:
Salary will be in accordance with current negotiated CUPE 2278 rates (as of September 2024):
- Graduate Teaching Assistant I: $40.16/hour
- Graduate Teaching Assistant II: $38.65/hour
- Undergraduate Teaching Assistant (UTA1): $26.40/hour
A full-time TA is 192 hours per term
